I have discovered that toyota didn't design the cooling system very well on the 7MGTE. On the supra, the radiator is mounted blow the motor, on a pickup, the radiator is mounted above. Not too big of a problem if it is just slightly above, you still get proper cooling. What I have found out, is that you cannot do a bed mounted radiator without the aid of an electric water pump. The pressure required to pump water that far and that high is not enough.
The water has two paths it can take. Through the block, and when the thermostat opens, it can(doesn't have to) flow to the radiator. Guess I either have to put my rad up fron, or get an inline electric water pump. _________________ Supra Swapper and Owner of this site

I heard that you can use a newer model (mkiv) water pump and it will be sufficient enough to pump water to a bed mounted radiator. Might be worth a try.

I don't think it would bolt on. I can give it a try, but I don't think it will work. I will check it out during lunch. I have an MKIV pump. _________________ Supra Swapper and Owner of this site |

was talking to a guy that owns a radiator and machinery works he specially modifys water pumps with his own design impellers that pump huge amounts of pressure in comparison to most stock pumps.i had a chance to sneak a look at how he designs them and from what i could see of the actual custom pump impeller was that it was similar to one youd find connected to your house pump(if you guys use tankwater for your homes).at the moment he only does them to order but if theres a call for it for it i know he can make a few at a time and the cost would be reasonable.if anyones interested let me know and ill try to sneak some pictures. |

yeah, I wouldnt mind seeing some pictures. I was thinking of modifying my stock pump to flow with a little more pressure behind it. _________________ Supra Swapper and Owner of this site |
