|

Ok so I picked up a 87 turbo today for 700 the car is totalled but motor and tranny are good the Supra had 120k on it. Planning on swapping it into my 93 2wd truck w/22re 5spd.
Few questions for you guys?
I already have....
5m motor mounts (do I need to enlarge the bolt holes?)
a 12" electric fan (should I run 2 of them?)
Do I need to run new fuels lines?
I knwo I need a new drive line... Is it best to just shorten the Supra one or the trucks? Do I need new tranny mounts for the R154 tranny to fit in the tunnel? I know I need to cut the shifter hole back a few inches.
I'd like to retain the power steering do I use the Supra pump or the trucks pump.
Am I missing anything else?
Thanks guys |

First off I am in the process of swapping a 7mgte into a 1990 2x4 ext-cab. The first thing that comes to mind is you may have to cut notch in your oil pan to get the engine to clear the draglink on the front suspension. I myself cut about a 1" x 1" notch out of the pan and formed a piece of .060 mild steel plate to fit and then had it brazed in. As far as the motor mounts go I had to enlongate only the hole on the mount which bolts up to the engine on the passenger side of engine. You just have to pay attention to which way you put the rubber mounts (22r3) into to the engine mount because the bolt in the rubber mount is slightly offset. Would like to show you picture of oil pan but I dont know how to attach it. |

Motor has been pulled out of the Supra and found a couple of problems which are delaying the swap. But nothing major except for the tranny issues.
Start needs to be replaced
power steering pump is leaking
BHG
cracked exhaust manifold
cracked oil pan and 2 bolts stripped
1st gear syncro is out
1st and 2nd gear looks toast
I sent the head off to the shop to get deck milled and leveled also a port and polished 3 angle valve job.
I ordered alot of new parts for it.
Metal HG
ARP head bolts
Cam gears
Centerforce clutch
Unorthodox flywheel
thowout bearing
starter
power steering pump
new belts
plugs/wires
Still debating on the turbo setup and the manifold if I wanna go with a rebuilt unit and just a stock mainfold. Main problem Ill have is traction but not that thats a bad thing:) |

Ok so about a year and a half later im about 2-3 weeks away from finishing.
Here's a teaser pic
The motor is completely stock no mods expect hard pipes for the IC.
Future plans are just to get it tuned and figure out what ill do for traction!!
Looking into a Explorer rear end with disc brakes. |

What's with the front bumper? I know there is a issue with clearance on the intercooler. I just changed out my whole front-end and installed one from a 4runner. With using the 4runner front-end there is plenty of room behind the bumper for the intercooler. Did you have to notch your oil pan to clear the draglink. Would like to see how you did it. I think I am going to redo mine to allow for additional clearance. Also redo my motor mounts to drop my engine about an 1" and use the motor mounts from the Supra. |

I just like the looks of this bumper even though it sticks out a bit further than the 4runner or a 4wd unit. And you cant beat free!!!
No I didnt notch the pan. We just ended up massaging it alittle. Ill try to grab pics next time im out at my buddies house where the truck is at.
Once all the piping is done. I might look into notching it but we'll see it goes. |

Long over due posting.....
So had the truck running for some time I decide to go one step further and swap the body and also do coil-overs...
Here's what she looks like today.
Still need to figure out my IC set up. I'm looking at the Saab 900 unit its 22x15x1.25 but I don't think its enough for my setup. But it will fit behind the stock grill w/hood latch. I'm trying to keep the exterior as sleeper as possible.
my motor is mainly stock except for ct26 60trim 550 3in exhaust FPR Lexus Maf. I know I'm forgetting a few things but that's the gist of the power.
Other lingering problems are i still cant get the stock tach to work. |
