http://www.mapecu.com

I was looking at a thread on this from another forum and thought that it might be a good way to weed out the AFM and make the intake routing more direct and take up less space under the hood when I build a snorkel. My question is, if I do a swap, is it possible to get the engine running initially with one of these or do I need to have the AFM to make setup easier? I was hoping to skip the cost of the AFM when buying a complete engine if it isn't needed. What do you think?

If you decide to go MAP-ECU, you really need a wide band and then good trouble shooting skills in order to tune. Would be best to find someone who has experience tuning to build you a quick base map to go off of.

I really like these units.

Are there any other relatively inexpensive units that would be easier and perform the same function?

at $400 new? That is inexpensive. There is nothing out there that even comes close for the price in my opinion. You can get them for as cheap as $300 used.

I realize that this price is cheap, that is why I was looking at it. If MAP-ECU is hard to tune I was just wondering if there was anything else similar that is easier to program? I would be for a stock engine anyway.

there is the SAFC. It goes off of a percentage instead of a new map. You can't fine tune it as much as you can with the MAP-ECU, and you also still need to run the stock AFM.

There is also the MAFT PRO, and you can elimated the stock AFM and convert to a HOTWIRE setup with BLOW-THROUGH, but then you still need a SAFC to be able to do better tuning, and know you are above the MAP-ECU cost.
