Has anybody tried switching just the brake booster in a post 89 truck with a pre 89 booster? Does it fit? Does the brake master need to be switched too? I was thinking this might be a nicer solution then denting the booster or grinding the intake.

That is exactly what I did on my 94. I put an 85 booster on. Pretty easy to do, and you can use your factory master.

The only proviso is that you use a booster and/or master cylinder from the same type of engine. For example, you can't use a booster from an EFI engine on a carby engine, and visa versa. The brake balance is all wrong.

Cheers,

Peter

hmm, this could be true. I used a carbed booster on my last swap, and it didn't work. I blamed it on a faulty booster. I then got a newer EFI booster and it worked fine.

Will have to test this further.

Very interesting! Looks like I need to add a pre-89 EFI brake booster to my parts list for the swap...
thanks!
