Hey, here from Pirate....
Dropped the 7M in my frame with W56/Crawlers and noticed that I was sitting at a 10 Deg drive line angle as apposed to the stock 4 deg that I measured before I took the stock drivetrain out.
I have come to the assumption that the 5M/22RE mount combo has raised the engine 1 1/4" (that is how far I have to raise the tranfer at the x-member to get the 4 deg driveline angle.
Is this normal? I did not see this mentioned anywhere else, and will I need a body lift to clear the engine, tranny?

Yes, this is normal, but has never been a problem. I did one that had a skidplate for the t-case and the angle was changed so it would hit. I just had to clearance a little bit. You don't need to raise the t-case if you don't want to. I think if you did raise the t-case you may need a body lift.
In the future I plan to make some engine mounts that are a little better fit and don't raise the engine so high. That would give a little better firewall clearnance too. _________________ Supra Swapper and Owner of this site |

I like the frame up idea. My 4runner is down to the frame right now, and then I haked the rear off to do a 4 link coil. The rear section alone was heavier than the rest of the frame with rock sliders and custom bumper. Yippie, wieght reduction.
THen of course 7M is not going back in, but going to be replaced by 2JZGTE single turbo _________________ Supra Swapper and Owner of this site |

Thanks for the info rob... I as well am going 4-link in rear and a small body lift will give me some extra options for putting the gas tank back there above the rear axle... The parts that annoyed me most about the 4runner was the low hanging T-Case and gas tank, I think I will raise the t-Case 1 1/4 to get the 4 deg angle and more clearance under it.. Will be copying C. Geiger's Crossmember as well, should be better clearance and moving the tank to the back should also be benificial...
Ever see how the cressida tank fits between the fram rails?
Check it out in this pic:

Nice!
Thanx for the heads up on the motor lift/angle issue.
Also thanx for the shot of the Cressida tank.
I assume thats out of the 90 Cressida?
I have an 85 Cressida (5M tho), and was thinking of seeing how that tank fit in the same spot you have yours in....
Got more pics of it?
Start another thread on it if you wish...Thanx... |

I think supra tanks are about the same size.
One of my friends runs both the stock tank and a supra tank in his 83 7MGTE conversion. He then runs an inline pump to pump gas from one to the other. Eventually he will get a guage hooked up and probably an switch for the fuel lines too. _________________ Supra Swapper and Owner of this site |

Thanx Rob.
Any write-up on the 83?
I hope to do the 7M in my 80.....My biggest concern (other than 7M/R151 bell), is what I'm going to do about the radiator and IC, due to the shorter engine bay... |

No writeup yet.
That one was done a little different. The frame mounts were modified a little bit and the 7M engine mounts were used I think, can't remember. I will have to go look at it again. Right now it has the R154 so there is no front drive shaft yet. I pretty much did just the wiring on this one, and my friend Nate did most of the install. Later I will get some pics up and a little writeup. I actually may buy the truck. _________________ Supra Swapper and Owner of this site |
