Project 10slow

Project 10slow

I don't really know what inspired me to do this project. It was kind of last minute.

GOAL-

To build a 600rwhp, 10 second, 4wd 1983 Toyota pickup for under $6,000, including truck, engine, drivetrain, and tires, and make it someone reliable.(as reliable as 600rwhp can be.)
Due to the problem with getting the wrong pistons, and the damage that was assosiated with this, I have decided to change my goal a little. I have decided to build this up a little bit more and allow the drivetrain to be able to handle the 600RWHP. This will blow my budget of $6,000, but total cost should be under $10,000. My goal is now high 9 second 1/4 mile.

Upgraded parts include:
GT67 turbo
Custom tubular manifold
680cc injectors
MAFT AFM converter
Zeitronix WB O2 sensor
Apexi S-AFC
JE .040 over Forged pistons
Dual Walboro fuel pumps
Ported and polish head

Unfortuanly I did not make it for Vegas. Upon staring the truck and tuning, I got about an hour into it and lost compression. I had to tear the motor back down to figure out what went wrong. It seems that the .040 over pistons I got were only .030. The machine shop bored the engine over to match the pistons so that was correct, but my rings were .040 over rings. Well as you can probably guess, there was not enough room for the rings to expand, so they burned up. By now, there was no way I could get it done in time for Vegas, and because of time, this project has now been put on hold until next spring. Here are a couple more pictures.

FinshedJust need to add the hood and grill.

I have sent off for the new rings. Project will be restarted soon. I am thinking about spending a little extra and going stand alone.

Well, 4 more days until I have to leave for Vegas. I still have a lot to do. I am still awaiting the turbo and transmission. Here are a couple more pics of what I have so far.

Engine bayHere is what the engine bay will someone look like. Just imagine the huge turbo in there

Here is the new interior...Well, new to the truck anyway

So far, I have orderd most of the parts needed. Still waiting on turbo, injectors, pistons, rings, and boost controller.

I am still waiting on engine block from the machine shop, prepped and balanced for .040 over forged pistons, shot peened rods, and ARP rod and head studs.
I have removed the interior of the cab, cut the fenders off, and have removed the floor. Doing this resulted in about 300lbs weight reduction.

I will replaced the floor with aluminum, and build a roll cage with lighter weight seats, and 5 point harnesses. Picture of floor
